DVD distribution best practices for International
Once
you have a completed project, whether it has had a theatrical release,
or is planned for the TV markets, or even straight to DVD, do not
forget to plan for your international DVD release. Too many
producers, focused on the domestic deal, forget to develop a strategy
to market their film to worldwide audiences. Many times the
distributor you will want to work with domesticallly, is focused on
just that, and foreign exploitation is not their core competency.
Getting your artwork and trailer, reviews and testimonials as
early as possible really help alot. Buyers have many screeners
sent to them all the time. I receive unsolicited submissions almost
daily to represent film and TV prodjects for international sales.
Remember you only get one chance to present yourself. So be sure
your best photography, your best clips in the trailer and your best
market proof of demand stories are at the tips of your fingers, and
ideally wrapped into a simple PDF presskit, with links to
trailers.
