America The Beautiful
is a socially probing documentary which explores the
question “Does America
have an unhealthy obsession with Beauty”?
Filmmaker
Darryl Roberts journeys
into the psyche of celebrities like
Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson,
athletes
like Reggie Theus, industry
professionals such as Jill
Ishkanian from
US
Weekly, Ted Casablanca from E! Channel, and citizens of America
to determine the
roots of
this superficial obsession.
Pop
culture celebrities like
Brittney Spears and Madonna have become poster girls for most of the
social
woes of today's youth!
Plastic
surgery, once considered
and upper class phenomenon primarily isolated to South California,
Texas and
Florida, has through the influx of
“self-improvement” reality shows, caused the
popularity of cosmetic surgery to transcend economic boundaries. Beautification
“quick fixes” have risen to
epidemic levels.
The
film chronicles the story of 12
year old Gerren Taylor, who was catapulted from unknown to Supermodel
in a very
short time. Her
experience on the
catwalks of Marc
Jacobs, DKNY,
Tommy
Hillfiger, provide a first hand look at what makes this
industry tick,
and how
the young ladies are used and abused in the most coveted backstages, at
the
pinnacle of the glamour industry.
America
The Beautiful takes a look
at an extreme example of self-destructive habits that are eroding the
self
esteem of young women, and transforming the landscape of the very
essence of
beauty.
This film has received a groundswell of public and media support in
literally every city it has screened in, across USA, Canada and a test
screening in Vienna. Its market debut is in Berlin , February
2009, at the European Film Market.
